Getting your notebook Realtek audio to work under WinXP

THose of you who bought notebooks pre-installed with Windows Vista and tried to downgrade the operating system to Windows XP may face the following problem – the Realtek audio does not work!

Solution:

1. Download and install the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) KB888111 from Microsoft.

NB: The installer will work under SP1 & SP2 but not SP3. For SP3 users, you will need to use e.g. WinRAR to manually extract the files (from the SP2 installer EXE) Hdaprop.dll, Hdashcut.exe, Hdaudbus.sys, Hdaudio.sys, Hdaudres.dll, Portcls.sys for installation.

2. Download and install the latest Realtek Audio Codecs from Realtek.

Hope the above is useful.
